Riding upwind: The First 40 was able to impress even with a lot of waves
With the new ship, Bénéteau has replaced the most successful cruiser/racer of all time after eleven years

The First 40.7 has been built around 800 times and has won the most important trophies. Nevertheless, it was time for a new start. Changes in regatta formulas, adjustments to production methods and fresh insights into construction and design made a complete replacement necessary.

The new boat was again designed by Bruce Farr. His task was to design a cruiser/racer that would function according to both the IRC and ORC (formerly IMS) compensation systems and, of course, also be suitable for sporty cruising. The customer has the choice between a T- or L-keel and between a two- or three-saloon rig.

YACHT was able to test the ship exclusively on the Atlantic in very different conditions. It impressed with a consistent deck layout, a suitable keel and rig concept, high rigidity and good sea behaviour. The equipment and technology were also good.

Cruising capability is ensured by a modern interior. The shipyard still wants to change a few details, such as the rather neutral steering. The ship lacks nothing for cruising, even if it offers slightly less space and storage space than comparable tourers.
